2 Ton Tony's Pizza
Pizza shop that has been serving the Irondequoit community for over 49 years, offering pizza, wings, and related items for dine-in and takeout.
Overview
2 Ton Tony's Pizza is a family-owned pizzeria at 545 Titus Avenue in Irondequoit, NY, operated by Tony Proietti. Tony learned his craft from his grandfather, who ran the original Proietti's Pizza on Goodman Street in Rochester — a family tradition spanning roughly five decades. After an earlier stint in Fairport, Tony opened the current Irondequoit shop in 2010, followed by a second location in Spencerport. He makes the dough, sauce, and other components in-house, continuing methods passed down through the Proietti family.
What They Offer
2 Ton Tony's cooks its pizzas in stone deck ovens rather than conveyor-belt ovens, a distinction the shop highlights as central to its approach. The menu includes:
- Over 15 specialty pizzas, such as the Buffalo Chicken, Meat Lovers, Ring of Fire (loaded with banana peppers, jalapeños, and hot cherry peppers), and Fiore di Pomodoro (a white pizza with plum tomatoes, basil, and ricotta)
- The 2 Ton-Za, a 27-inch pizza yielding 36 to 64 slices, available with custom or specialty toppings
- 2 Ton Tony's Time Square, a 20-inch thin-crust NYC-style pie
- Buffalo-style chicken wings with house-made sauce, plus boneless wing options
- Calzones stuffed with mozzarella, Parmesan-Romano, and ricotta
- Gluten-free pizza
- Hot and cold subs
Pickup, delivery, and online ordering are available through the shop's website.
Known For
2 Ton Tony's is known for its from-scratch preparation — Tony Proietti strains his own tomatoes for sauce and incorporates margarine into the dough, both family recipes carried over from the original Proietti's on Goodman Street. The shop also hosts an annual Christmas Eve charitable lunch, a tradition Tony revived from his grandparents' practice of inviting customers and neighbors to eat together during the holidays. In 2012, the event raised over $2,000 for a local family.
