Axom Gallery

Axom Gallery is a contemporary art gallery and home design destination located at 661 South Ave in Rochester's South Wedge neighborhood. Established in 2012 by the Muto family — Robin, Rick, and Margot — the gallery grew out of the family's combined backgrounds in interior design, architectural decorative arts, and visual arts. Originally situated on Anderson Avenue in the Neighborhood of the Arts, Axom relocated to its current South Avenue storefront, where it operates as both a fine art exhibition space and a curated showroom for modern furnishings.

Axom Gallery presents rotating exhibitions of contemporary fine art from both emerging and established artists working across various media. Alongside the gallery programming, the space functions as a retail destination for modern furniture, lighting, home decor, and accessories. The business blends art and design under one roof, with exhibition pieces displayed alongside contemporary furnishings that emphasize clean lines, quality craftsmanship, and what the owners describe as a "new-modern" aesthetic. Axom participates in Rochester's First Friday art walks, opening its doors for evening gallery events. The gallery is open Tuesday through Friday from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Saturday from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with appointments available on Mondays and Sundays.

Axom Gallery is one of a small number of Rochester galleries that intentionally bridges fine art and interior design, displaying original artwork in the context of a furnished living environment rather than on bare white walls. Margot Muto served as gallery director during the first four years of operation, building the gallery's identity as a professionally run exhibition space before moving on to become Director of Exhibitions at the Memorial Art Gallery. Rick Muto, a practicing artist and specialist in architectural decorative arts, currently serves as gallery director.

The gallery sits on South Avenue in the heart of the South Wedge, a walkable neighborhood south of downtown Rochester anchored by locally owned shops, restaurants, and cafes along the South Avenue corridor. The South Wedge is a member-supported commercial district represented by BASWA (Business Association of the South Wedge Area), and Axom is listed among its member businesses. Street parking is available along South Avenue, and the gallery's storefront location makes it accessible for walk-in visits. The space is wheelchair accessible.
