Bar Bantam

Bar Bantam is a full-service restaurant and bar occupying the lobby of The Metropolitan building at 1 South Clinton Avenue in downtown Rochester, NY. The restaurant opened in February 2018 as a joint venture between the Gallina family — Lauren, Robert, and Evan Gallina — along with Patrick Dutton of Gallina Development Corporation and managing partner Chuck Cerankosky, who also co-owns Good Luck and Cure in Rochester. Executive Chef Sean O'Donnell, who previously cooked at Aunt Rosie's and Next Door by Wegmans, leads the kitchen with a California-inspired approach to American fare.

Bar Bantam operates as an all-day eatery, shifting its identity from morning café to evening cocktail destination. During daytime hours, the restaurant serves coffee, breakfast items like egg sandwiches and creative toasts, and a lunch menu featuring vegetable-and-grain bowls and sandwiches. Pastries are sourced from Village Bakery and Café. In the evenings, the focus moves to craft cocktails and a seasonal dinner menu that puts twists on familiar dishes. The restaurant also offers an aperitivo-style happy hour starting at 3 p.m. Vegan and gluten-free options are available, and the menus rotate with the seasons. Bar Bantam is open Tuesday through Saturday, with weekend dinner hours starting later on Saturdays.

Bar Bantam is known for its distinctive setting — a 2,100-square-foot space built around an eye-catching central structure that houses both the bar and kitchen, with seating arranged on three sides. Floor-to-ceiling windows give the room an open, urban feel.
