Craft Company No. 6

Craft Company No. 6 is a woman-owned artisan gift shop occupying a restored 1888 Victorian firehouse — the original Engine Company No. 6 — at 785 University Avenue in Rochester, NY. Founded in 1980, the shop has spent more than four decades curating handmade work from American and Canadian artisans. The business changed ownership in October 2022 and continues to operate under owner Donna Wobschall, carrying forward the store's long tradition of showcasing handcrafted goods in a distinctive historic setting.

The shop stocks handmade jewelry, blown glass, pottery, woodcraft, fiber art, and metal art sourced from over 450 independent artisans. Spread across two floors of the converted firehouse, the inventory also includes:

Many pieces are one-of-a-kind, so the selection rotates as new work arrives from artists across the U.S. and Canada. An online shop carries a portion of the inventory, though the full range is only available in person. Military members, veterans, and first responders receive a 15-percent discount daily with valid ID.

Craft Company No. 6 is known for its unusual home — a 19th-century firehouse with period architectural details that double as a backdrop for the art inside. The shop's focus on handmade American artisan jewelry and blown glass has anchored it as a fixture of Rochester's Neighborhood of the Arts district for more than 45 years, and its two-floor layout gives it a gallery-like browsing experience that sets it apart from typical gift shops.

The shop sits on University Avenue in the heart of Rochester's Neighborhood of the Arts (NOTA), a compact district roughly 15 blocks long and three blocks wide that concentrates more galleries, studios, and cultural institutions than any other area in the metro region. Craft Company No. 6 is about a five-minute walk from the Memorial Art Gallery and lies along ARTWalk, the neighborhood's outdoor urban-art trail featuring sidewalk mosaics and sculpture.
