D'Mangu

D'Mangu is a Dominican restaurant at 154 Genesee St in Rochester's Arnett neighborhood. Founded by Luis Tejeda, who immigrated from the Dominican Republic in 1998, the restaurant has become a fixture of the local dining scene. The Genesee Street location opened in December 2016, building on the success of an earlier location in the Henrietta area. D'Mangu focuses on authentic Dominican home-style cooking, with Tejeda and his family operating the business together.

D'Mangu serves a menu of traditional Dominican dishes prepared from scratch. Standout offerings include:

The restaurant's name references mangú, the mashed plantain dish that is a cornerstone of Dominican breakfast and comfort food. Tejeda has emphasized fresh ingredients and recipes drawn from family tradition as central to the kitchen's approach. The restaurant's involvement with RIT's campus dining program, where items like roasted pork bowls and sweet plantains became regular offerings, helped introduce Dominican cuisine to a broader Rochester audience.

D'Mangu sits on Genesee Street in the Arnett neighborhood on Rochester's west side, not far from the intersection of Genesee Street and Arnett Boulevard. The surrounding area is a walkable, densely residential neighborhood characterized by historic housing stock, much of it dating to the early twentieth century. Street parking is available along Genesee Street. The neighborhood is close to the Genesee River and within a short drive of downtown Rochester and the University of Rochester campus.
