Gallery Salon

Gallery Salon is a hair and nail salon, art gallery, and vintage shop located inside Rochester's Public Market in the JOSANA neighborhood of Rochester, NY. Founded in 2005 by stylist Erika Sorbello, the business started with five chairs and a vision to blend beauty services with local art. Over the years, Gallery Salon expanded to multiple locations before consolidating and eventually relocating from its longtime Elton Street space in the Neighborhood of the Arts to a building Sorbello purchased at 1 Public Market. The salon employs more than a dozen stylists, nail artists, and makeup artists.

Beyond salon services, the space doubles as a rotating art gallery featuring paintings, jewelry, and handcrafted pieces by Rochester-area artists. Artwork is swapped out every two months, and the salon hosts bi-monthly artist openings, artisan sales showcasing local makers and designers, and fundraising events throughout the year. A curated vintage shop rounds out the offerings.

Gallery Salon operates with gender-neutral pricing, a policy Sorbello adopted after recognizing that traditional salon pricing often charged different rates for similar services based on gender. The salon is a certified LGBTQIA+ Safe Zone. Its hybrid model — functioning simultaneously as a working salon, art gallery, and retail space — sets it apart from conventional salons in the Rochester area. CITY Magazine recognized Gallery Salon with a "Best Haircut" award in its Best of Rochester reader poll.

Gallery Salon is situated at 1 Public Market, within the Rochester Public Market complex on Union Street near North Clinton Avenue. The Public Market, one of Rochester's most active community hubs, hosts year-round vendor markets and draws visitors from across the region. Street parking and a public lot serve the market area. The surrounding neighborhood sits at the edge of the JOSANA and Beechwood districts, with easy access from downtown Rochester and the Neighborhood of the Arts to the south.
