Ralph Genrich Jr. founded the operation in 1960 as a small garden center focused on lawn care, shrubs, and ball-and-burlap trees grown on the property. His wife, Mary Ellen, added a florist shop after attending Hixson's floral design school in the mid-1970s, and their son Ralph III expanded the greenhouse facilities starting around 1981.
