food-beveragebakery

Longtime local Italian bakery known for fresh daily-made bread, cannolis, eclairs, and cupcakes. Cash only.

Overview

J & D DiVincenzo Bakery is a family-owned Italian bakery at 1716 Portland Ave in the Town of Irondequoit, just north of Rochester, NY. The DiVincenzo baking tradition dates back to 1905, when Dominic and Maria DiVincenzo opened their first shop on Central Park in northeast Rochester. After that original location closed in 1976, the family reopened three years later at the current Portland Avenue storefront in 1979. Now operated by the third generation of the DiVincenzo family — including Debbie Botsis and her siblings Gary, Rick, and Cynthia DiVincenzo — the bakery has maintained its old-school Italian character for well over a century of family baking.

What They Offer

The bakery produces a range of fresh-baked goods daily, rooted in Italian and French baking traditions. Regular offerings include:

  • Fresh Italian bread and French bread
  • Pizza bread, pepperoni bread, and garlic bread
  • Cannoli and eclairs with cream filling
  • Cupcakes, cakes, and brownies
  • Soft rolls and chocolate chip cookies

Prices are inexpensive, and the bakery is cash only — no credit cards are accepted. Hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Friday and Saturday from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM, and Sunday from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM. The bakery is closed on Mondays.

Known For

J & D DiVincenzo Bakery is known for its multi-generational family roots and daily-made bread in the Italian tradition. The bakery has operated under the DiVincenzo name since 1905, making it one of the longer-running family bakery lineages in the Rochester area. Their savory bread varieties — particularly the pizza bread and pepperoni bread — and filled pastries like cannoli and oversized eclairs are consistent staples that draw repeat visitors.

Location & Neighborhood

The bakery sits on Portland Avenue just north of the East Ridge Road intersection in Irondequoit, a residential suburb bordering Rochester's northeast side. The Portland Avenue corridor in this stretch is a mix of small local businesses and neighborhood shops. Street parking is available along Portland Avenue in front of the bakery. The area is easily accessible from Route 104 and is a short drive from Durand Eastman Park and the Lake Ontario shoreline to the north.
