Joe Bean Coffee Roasters

Joe Bean Coffee Roasters is a women-owned, B Corp certified coffee roastery and café located in Rochester's North Winton Village neighborhood. Founded in 2011, the business originally operated as a café on University Avenue before relocating in 2019 to a renovated warehouse at 565 Blossom Road. The company is owned by Kathy Turiano, Ben Turiano, and Dena Jones, and has built its identity around direct trade relationships with a network of small-scale coffee farmers cultivated over more than a decade.

The Blossom Road roastery houses both a production facility and an in-house coffee bar. Visitors can order espresso drinks, drip coffee, and pour-overs prepared with Hario V60 and Chemex brewers, pulled on a Victoria Arduino Black Eagle espresso machine. The roastery uses a 10-kilo Proaster for all its roasting, managed with Cropster software. Beyond the café, Joe Bean sells single-origin coffees, blends, decaf, and nitro cold brew through its online shop, along with coffee subscriptions and gift boxes. The company also runs wholesale services that include private labeling, café consultation, coffee education, and large-scale roasting through its Tailor Fit Coffee program. An ongoing Artist Series pairs featured coffees with original artwork from local Rochester artists.

Joe Bean has earned recognition in the specialty coffee industry, including a 2013 Good Food Award for its Direct Trade Nicaraguan Don Roger coffee, multiple Golden Bean Awards, and a win at the Specialty Coffee Association's National Roaster's Competition. The roastery has also been featured in Food & Wine and Imbibe. The business sources coffee through importers focused on supply chain transparency, including partnerships with organizations like Truth Trading Company and Gold Mountain Coffee Growers, and emphasizes what it describes as honest sourcing and earth-friendly practices.

The roastery occupies a converted warehouse space at 565 Blossom Road, Suite E1, in North Winton Village — a walkable residential neighborhood on Rochester's east side. The space features 40-foot ceilings, an open layout, and large windows that fill the production and café areas with natural light. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For those unable to visit Blossom Road, Joe Bean also offers local pickup at the Culver Road Armory, a repurposed historic building nearby on Culver Road that houses several local shops and eateries.
