Lamplighter Restaurant

Lamplighter Restaurant is an Italian-inspired dinner house in the Greece neighborhood of Rochester, NY, established in 1970 by Nick Castronova. For more than five decades, the restaurant has served as a neighborhood fixture, drawing both local regulars and visitors to the area. Open Tuesday through Saturday for dinner service beginning at 4:30 p.m., the Lamplighter operates from a modest shopping plaza off West Ridge Road near the intersection with Fetzner Road and Maiden Lane.

The menu centers on Italian-American cuisine with a seafood and steak component. Starters include garlic crostini topped with house-made ricotta, clams casino, arancini, and spicy fried calamari. Soups rotate but regularly feature crab bisque and French onion. Entrée options span chicken preparations, ragù bolognese, Mediterranean pasta, bouillabaisse, braised pork shank, salmon, rack of lamb, and filet mignon. Desserts lean Italian, with bombolini — ricotta-based pastries served with chocolate sauce — among the offerings.

Beyond regular dinner service, the Lamplighter hosts private events. A dedicated party room accommodates up to 50 guests, and the full restaurant is available for daytime buyouts seating as many as 80. Banquet menus range from brunch buffets to themed Italian dinners. The restaurant also runs a full bar with daily happy-hour pricing.

Lamplighter Restaurant is known for its chicken French, a Rochester-area staple that has been a signature dish on the menu for years. Each September, the kitchen supplements its regular Italian menu with a limited German menu, a seasonal tradition that sets it apart from other Italian restaurants in the area. With over 50 years of continuous operation and banquet experience dating back to its founding, the restaurant has built a loyal following in western Monroe County.

The restaurant sits in a small shopping plaza off West Ridge Road in Greece, just down the road from the Rochester Airport Marriott. The plaza is near the corner of Fetzner Road and Maiden Lane, accessible from Route 104. Street-level parking is available directly in the plaza lot. The Greece neighborhood is a largely residential suburb on Rochester's northwest side, and the Lamplighter's unassuming strip-plaza setting belies the sit-down dining experience inside.
