Mark & M.E.

Mark & M.E. is a family-owned salon at 1775 Mt Hope Ave in Rochester, NY, with roots stretching back to 1956. The business began as Style-O-Rama, founded by Celia Nesser in the Mt Hope Shopping Plaza; her husband Joseph joined her a few years later. Their son Mark earned his NYS Cosmetology license and started working in the salon in 1980. After marrying Mary Elizabeth in 1984, the couple eventually purchased the business from Mark's parents and rebranded it as Mark & M.E. in 1996. Mary Elizabeth had joined the salon in 1987 as a nail technician and later attended beauty school in 1992 to broaden her skill set.

The salon provides a wide range of services spanning hair, skin, and body care:

• Hair cuts, coloring, and perms
• Facials and back facials
• Waxing services for women and men, including their signature Brazilian wax
• Manicures and pedicures
• Lash lifts and brow laminations

Mark focuses on hair services while Mary Elizabeth manages the waxing side of the business. The current team includes six stylists — Mark, Mary Elizabeth, Julia, Jade, Katie, and Bella — each handling different specialties across the salon's offerings.

Mark & M.E. has built its reputation around the "Home of the 10 Minute Brazilian" tagline, a signature waxing service developed by Mary Elizabeth. The salon's seven-decade history at the same Mt Hope Ave shopping plaza — spanning three family members across two generations — gives it one of the longer continuous operating histories among Rochester salons. The plaza is south of Highland Park and the University of Rochester campus, making it accessible from multiple South Rochester neighborhoods. Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with the salon closed on Sundays and Mondays. Online booking is available through their website.
