Mayer Paint & Hardware is an independently owned hardware store at 226 North Winton Road in Rochester, NY, operating as part of the Ace Hardware cooperative. The business traces its roots to 1951, when Clarence and Ruth Mayer opened the original shop at the corner of Main Street and Illinois Street. In 1966 the Mayers relocated to the North Winton Village neighborhood, taking over the former Martin's Hardware space. Tom and Barb Green purchased the store in 1972, and it is now run by their son Tom Green Jr. and his wife Sara Green — keeping it in family hands for over five decades.

The roughly 5,000-square-foot store packs a wide inventory across departments that include paint and sundries, hand and power tools, plumbing, electrical, lawn and garden, housewares, automotive, cleaning supplies, sporting goods, and patio and outdoor living. Mayer Paint & Hardware is also a Benjamin Moore paint retailer, with a dedicated paint section and computerized color-matching service. Beyond product sales, the store provides a range of practical services:

Mayer Paint & Hardware has occupied its North Winton Road location for nearly 60 years, making it a long-standing fixture of the neighborhood. The store was named Best Housewares Store by Rochester's CITY Magazine in 2023. Its interior retains original wood floors and wood-paneled walls, giving it a traditional neighborhood hardware store character. Despite its compact footprint, the shop stocks a depth of inventory that covers the vast majority of home-improvement categories, with lumber being one of the few exceptions due to space limitations.

The store sits on North Winton Road in the heart of North Winton Village, a walkable commercial stretch in Rochester's eastern neighborhoods. The surrounding block includes small shops and local businesses characteristic of Rochester's village-style retail corridors. Street parking is available along North Winton Road. The store is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
