Casual upscale American restaurant serving locally sourced cuisine with microbrews and craft cocktails in downtown Rochester.

Overview

Native Eatery & Bar is a casual upscale American restaurant at 180 S Clinton Ave in downtown Rochester, NY. Opened in July 2018, it occupies a 6,850-square-foot space inside the building known as 3 City Center — the former Frontier building at the corner of Woodbury Boulevard and South Clinton Avenue. The restaurant is owned by Ross and Lauren Mueller, lifelong Rochesterians who also operate Label 7 in Pittsford through their Mueller Restaurant Group. Executive chef Jason Carlson rounds out the ownership team.

What They Offer

The kitchen focuses on New-Age American cuisine built around locally sourced ingredients, reflecting the ownership group's commitment to working with regional small businesses and producers. The full bar program includes handcrafted cocktails, local microbrews, and a broad wine list. Beyond dinner, Native serves weekday lunch Tuesday through Friday. The front entrance on Clinton Avenue houses The Market, a grab-and-go counter offering breakfast and lunch items made with fresh, local ingredients alongside a coffee bar. The restaurant accommodates vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free diets. A private dining area seating 14 and a 50-seat conference room with AV equipment are available for events and meetings.

Known For

Native is known for its locally driven sourcing philosophy and an interior that incorporates reclaimed materials — including lumber from repurposed sauerkraut and wine barrels — lending the dining room a character tied to the region's agricultural heritage. The southwest corner of the restaurant features louvered glass doors that fold open to connect the indoor space with a street-level patio, and custom-built staircases lead from the patio down to the Woodbury and South Clinton corner.

Location & Neighborhood

Situated directly across from Geva Theatre Center in downtown Rochester, Native anchors the ground floor of 3 City Center at the intersection of Woodbury Boulevard and South Clinton Avenue. The outdoor patio overlooks Washington Square Park. Free street parking is available on South Clinton Avenue and St. Mary's Place on weekends and after 6 PM on weekdays, and the Woodbury Garage offers free parking after 8 PM outside of special events. The restaurant is closed Sundays and Mondays; lunch runs Tuesday through Friday from 11 AM to 2 PM, and dinner service is Tuesday through Thursday until 9 PM and Friday through Saturday until 10 PM.
