Pilates of Rochester

Pilates of Rochester is a private Pilates studio located at 90 Windemere Road in the Browncroft neighborhood of Rochester, NY. Founded in 2005 by Jeanne Compisi, the studio focuses exclusively on one-on-one training sessions tailored to each client's individual needs and goals. Compisi has been teaching Pilates since 2000, bringing a background in professional contemporary dance and choreography to her instruction. She holds a BA in Women's Studies, Education, and Dance from William Smith College and an MFA from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, and completed a two-year Pilates apprenticeship at the Kane School of Core Integration in New York City (now The Kinected Center), earning certifications in both mat and apparatus work.

Compisi's approach draws on both her formal Pilates certification and her years as a professional dancer with companies including Ivy Baldwin Dance, Gina Gibney Dance, and Tapfusion in New York City, as well as Rochester-based Biodance. That movement background informs sessions that emphasize proper form and body mechanics across both classic and contemporary uses of the Pilates apparatus. The studio has operated continuously in the Browncroft area for over two decades.

The studio sits on Windemere Road in Browncroft, a residential neighborhood in southeast Rochester listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 2004. The area is characterized by tree-lined streets, Colonial Revival and Tudor Revival architecture, and a quiet, walkable setting. One of Browncroft's four remaining original iron street-marker posts stands at the nearby intersection of Windemere Road and Newcastle Road. The Browncroft Rose Garden Park, featuring over 300 rose bushes and walking paths, is also in the neighborhood. Street parking is available along Windemere Road.
