REDD
Upscale New American restaurant open for dinner Monday through Saturday, with Friday lunch service.
Overview
REDD is an upscale New American restaurant at 24 Winthrop Street in Rochester's East End neighborhood. Chef Richard Reddington, a Pittsford native and Pittsford Sutherland High School graduate, opened the restaurant in April 2019 with business partner Dennis Wilmot in the space formerly occupied by 2 Vine, which had operated there for 19 years. Before returning to his hometown, Reddington built a career in top kitchens across the country and in France, training at establishments including Arpège in Paris, Spago Beverly Hills, and Auberge du Soleil in Napa Valley, where he served as executive chef. He also received multiple James Beard Award nominations for Best Chef in the Pacific region.
What They Offer
REDD serves dinner Monday through Saturday and offers a Friday lunch service. The menu draws on Reddington's classical French training and years in California wine country, blending those influences with locally sourced ingredients. Current dinner offerings include:
- Starters such as tuna tartare with Asian pear and avocado, Maine lobster risotto with truffle oil, and glazed pork belly with apple purée
- Wood-fired pizzas including a mozzarella with tomato and basil, prosciutto with fontina and arugula, and the Bee Sting with soppressata and honey
- Mains ranging from prime NY strip with chimichurri and bordelaise to poached halibut with pea purée and cioppino fisherman's stew
- Desserts like butterscotch pot de crème and a brûléed banana sundae with rum ice cream
The restaurant also offers catering and private event hosting.
Known For
REDD is the only Rochester restaurant helmed by a former Michelin-starred chef — Reddington's original REDD in Yountville, California held a Michelin star from 2008 through 2013 before closing in 2017. USA Today named REDD Rochester one of the best restaurants in the United States in 2024. The menu's wood-fired pizzas and globally influenced starters, paired with a wine list rooted in Reddington's Napa Valley background, set the restaurant apart from other fine-dining options in the city.
Location & Neighborhood
REDD sits on Winthrop Street in Rochester's East End, a walkable district anchored by restaurants, boutiques, and nightlife along East Avenue and Alexander Street. The restaurant occupies the ground-floor space that previously housed 2 Vine, a neighborhood fixture for nearly two decades. Street parking and nearby municipal lots serve the area. The East End is one of Rochester's most active dining corridors, accessible from Interstate 490 and a short walk from the George Eastman Museum.
