Strangebird

Strangebird is a brewery and restaurant at 62 Marshall St in Rochester, NY, situated between Monroe Avenue and Broadway Street. The business launched in January 2021 on the site of a former market, initially selling to-go cans before opening its full brewpub. Since then, Strangebird has built a significant reputation, earning New York State Craft Brewery of the Year in 2022 and ranking among the top brewpubs in the country in consecutive USA Today 10Best Readers' Choice polls.

Strangebird operates 24 rotating taps of house-brewed beer spanning a wide range of styles, from lagers and Czech-style pils to barrel-aged specialties. The bar also carries wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic options. The kitchen produces made-from-scratch food using locally sourced and seasonal ingredients, with a rotating weekly menu that has featured items like falafel burgers, smoked bologna sandwiches, and fried clam po'boys. The space includes two private and semi-private event areas — the Wood Room and the Brew Bar — and catering is available for off-site gatherings. Seating is first-come, first-served with no reservations.

Strangebird has accumulated a notable list of competition accolades in a short operating history. The brewery took home a Bronze at the World Beer Cup in 2024 and a Bronze at the Great American Beer Festival the same year. In 2026, it won five medals at the New York State Craft Beer Competition. VinePair named it one of the 30 best breweries in the United States in 2024, and Rochester's CITY magazine readers voted it Best New Restaurant in 2022 and Best Craft Brewery in 2024. The kitchen earned a RISE Award from the New York Restaurant Association for Best Restaurant in the Western Region in 2023.

The brewery sits on Marshall Street just south of Monroe Avenue, one of Rochester's busiest commercial corridors in the Upper Monroe neighborhood. It is close to downtown and easily accessible from I-490. A dedicated parking lot is on site, with the entrance off Marshall Street and exit onto Broadway.
