Tavo's Antojitos y Tequila

Tavo's Antojitos y Tequila is an authentic Mexican restaurant located in the North Winton Village neighborhood of Rochester, NY. Owner Jose Guevara opened the restaurant at 425 Merchants Road around 2022, drawing on a family legacy in the regional restaurant industry that spans more than three decades. Guevara's mother originally founded El Rincon Mexicano in Sodus to serve the local Mexican community, and his brother has operated Rio Tomatlan in Canandaigua for over 20 years. Guevara himself attended culinary school and spent roughly two decades in the industry before launching Tavo's.

The menu focuses on Mexican cuisine rooted in Pacific-coast Jalisco traditions, prepared with locally sourced ingredients. Standout dishes include:

• Camarones al Tequila – pan-seared shrimp with chipotle peppers, tomatoes, spinach, onions, and serrano chiles, flambéed with tequila and fresh-squeezed orange juice, served over poblano lime rice
• Birria tacos – a house specialty
• Tamales, flautas, and pozole (offered in both green and red varieties)
• Guacamole – finished with crema, chili oil, pepitas, pickled onion, and cotija cheese
• Churro French Toast and Chocolate Tres Leches on the dessert and brunch side

The bar carries a broad tequila selection and serves specialty margaritas. Tavo's also offers catering with customizable menus and accepts online orders for pickup.

Tavo's is known for continuing a multigenerational family restaurant tradition in the Greater Rochester area. The interior features a wall design inspired by artwork created by Guevara's aunt. The restaurant participates in community events such as Eat Local New York Restaurant Week and was nominated for a Rochester City Magazine dining award in 2025. The kitchen is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m.; the restaurant is closed on Mondays.

Tavo's sits on Merchants Road in North Winton Village, an established east-side Rochester neighborhood near the intersection of Merchants Road and Winton Road North. The area is a mixed residential and commercial corridor with independent shops and neighborhood eateries. Street parking is available along Merchants Road. The restaurant operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations.
