Opened in April 2025 after nearly two years of renovation, the restaurant was built inside a former pizzeria by a team of four owners — three Rochester natives and one Nashville transplant. The name draws on the idea of a coterie as a close-knit gathering place, and the owners handled much of the construction, interior design, and menu development themselves.

The Coterie serves creative takes on comfort-food staples with an upscale-casual approach. The menu includes burgers, sandwiches, naan bread pizzas, pasta dishes, and starters like chicken cordon bleu egg rolls and hand-breaded chicken tenders with house-made sauces. Freshly baked desserts round out the food menu. Behind the bar, the cocktail program features custom syrups prepared in-house. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options are available. The Coterie stands out for its eclectic, hands-on interior design. A repurposed church pew serves as seating in the lounge area, an altar was converted into the base of the bar, and high-top tables are built from reclaimed wood and bowling-alley lanes.
