The Old Stone Tavern

The Old Stone Tavern is a neighborhood bar and restaurant at 758 South Avenue in Rochester's South Wedge neighborhood. It opened in July 2018 with the goal of filling a gap in the South Wedge dining and bar scene. The tavern positions itself as a casual, community-focused spot serving American comfort food alongside a full bar program, and it operates as a member of the Business Association of the South Wedge Area (BASWA).

The kitchen menu leans into American bar-food staples with some creative twists. Standout items include smash burgers — one version stuffed with cheese curds and topped with house gravy — personal pizzas available in regular or spicy preparations with ranch sauce base and homemade pickles, and beer-battered Atlantic haddock. The menu also covers hot dogs, tater tots, salads, and other pub fare. Weekend brunch is served Saturdays and Sundays from 11 AM to 3 PM.

On the drink side, The Old Stone Tavern carries a rotating beer list and a cocktail menu alongside daily happy hour pricing — $1 off drafts from 4 to 7 PM — with rotating drink specials each evening after 7 PM. The Old Stone Tavern serves as the South Wedge's dedicated sports bar, equipped with seven large-screen HDTVs broadcasting NFL, NHL, MLB, and NCAA football and basketball games. Despite the sports-bar setup, the kitchen operates as a full restaurant with weekday service starting at 11:30 AM and a weekend brunch program, making it a dual-purpose spot for both game-day crowds and neighborhood diners.

The tavern has a private parking lot with over 35 spaces, accessible from both South Avenue and Caroline Street. The South Wedge runs along the east side of the Genesee River south of downtown Rochester, and South Avenue serves as its main commercial corridor.
