Craft brewery in the Neighborhood of the Arts producing fresh craft beer.

Overview

Three Heads Brewing is a craft brewery at 186 Atlantic Ave in Rochester, NY's Neighborhood of the Arts. Founded in 2010 by Dan Nothnagle, Todd Dirrigl, Brian Johnson, and Geoff Dale, the brewery grew out of a homebrewing hobby that started in a Brighton basement. The four founders gained early recognition by winning three gold medals and Best of Show at the Amber Waves of Grain homebrew competition in Buffalo. After initially partnering with CB Craft Brewers in Honeoye Falls for production, Three Heads Brewing moved into its own facility on Atlantic Avenue in 2016.

What They Offer

The taproom keeps 16 house-brewed beers flowing at all times, spanning a wide range of styles. Core offerings include:

  • The Kind — a 6.8% ABV India Pale Ale and the brewery's flagship
  • Loopy — an oatmeal red ale at 6% ABV
  • Skunk — a black IPA at 6.5% ABV
  • Tres Cabezas — a key lime gose at 4.5% ABV
  • Common Man — a light lager at 4.5% ABV

Seasonal and specialty releases rotate on the remaining taps. Beyond beer, the taproom also pours New York State wine, cider, and non-alcoholic beverages, with gluten-free options available. The brewery welcomes outside food, and neighbors like Pizza NOTA and Old Pueblo Grill are nearby for ordering in. The taproom is open Monday through Thursday from 2–9 PM, Friday and Saturday from noon–11 PM, and Sunday from noon–5 PM.

Three Heads Brewing is known for its flagship Kind IPA, which has become closely associated with Rochester's craft beer scene since the brewery's early days. The beer garden and large patio host live music every Saturday and Sunday, along with recurring community events such as yoga sessions and cornhole tournaments. The brewery also accommodates private events and group gatherings in its indoor and outdoor spaces.

Location & Neighborhood

The brewery sits on Atlantic Avenue in Rochester's Neighborhood of the Arts, a stretch of the city's east side defined by galleries, murals, and creative businesses along and around the Park Avenue corridor. The taproom's outdoor beer garden and patio provide a casual gathering spot within walking distance of the neighborhood's restaurants and shops. Street parking is available along Atlantic Avenue and surrounding blocks.
