Hopeman Carillon Summer Concert: Sheryl Modlin — July 27
Monday, July 27, 2026 at 6:30 PM
Eastman Quadrangle, University of Rochester, Rochester NY
Cost: Free
What's Happening
Sheryl Modlin plays the second concert of the 2026 Hopeman Carillon summer series. She is a carillonneur from Ohio and, in her other life, a pediatric anesthesiologist at the Cleveland Clinic. Her program moves from Bach and Florence Price to the spiritual "Wade in the Water" and the Beatles' "Here Comes the Sun."
The Hopeman Memorial Carillon is fifty bells weighing more than three tons, played live from a cabin roughly 186 feet up inside the Rush Rhees tower. Nothing about it is automated. Everything you hear on the quad below travels from one person's hands and feet through bronze. Bring a blanket, bring a picnic, and let the whole campus turn into a concert hall with no walls.
