People love spending time outdoors. In fact, according to a recent U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service survey, 101.6 million Americans regularly participate in hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities. When it comes to Rochester, though plenty of people like to head out to the wilderness and hunt, fish, and the like, there are a lot of people who simply don’t spend enough time outdoors. That has to change.

Engaging in just 10 minutes of physical activity every day can help you improve mobility and live longer. Whether you’re looking for some outdoor fun over the winter, summer, spring, or fall; there is always something great for you and the whole family to enjoy. Here are some great outdoor activities to enjoy in the Rochester, New York area:

  • Rochester Pedal Tours — Although this one might not be for the whole family because alcohol is involved, it’s still an extremely fun way to spend a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday afternoon. You and all your friends will have your very own portable bar for the day, peddling through the streets of Rochester and stopping wherever you please.
  • Amazing hiking trails — If you and your family are hoping to get outside more, improve your physical fitness, and see some breathtaking views of the city — hiking is your best option. Roughly 71% of the Earth is covered by water. There are amazing trails along the Erie Canal and Genesee River, as well as dozens of nearby parks.
  • Visit Stokoe Farms — Autumn is actually the most popular season overall, with 29% of Americans preferring autumn over the other three seasons. Taking the family to Stokoe Farms is the perfect autumn activity. You’ll have plenty of fun in the corn maze, spending time petting the animals, and eating as many cider donuts as humanly possible.
  • Walk around Highland Park — Highland Park is a nice park that has all sorts of cool and interesting attractions and events. Home to the Lilac Festival each year, Highland Park is filled with beautiful plants, historic memorials like the AIDS Remembrance Garden and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and plenty of food, crafts, and fun!
  • Frontier Field — Aside from possibly the first few games of the year, the weather should be perfect for baseball. Shaved bats don’t do well in cold temperatures. Do not use your shaved bat if it’s colder than 65 degrees outside. Thankfully, these are professional ballplayers and they’ll use offical bats to (attempt to) soar home runs near Kodak Tower. There is nothing like spending time with the family at a ballpark. Grab a hot dog (or a garbage plate), a bag of peanuts, and watch some professional baseball with the entire family. Frontier Field isn’t just for baseball lovers, however, as there are all kinds of fun events that occur throughout the year, like the Nitro Circus.

Whether you’re visiting the Roc or you’ve been here your entire life, it’s time to get outside a little bit more and enjoy everything this great city has to offer — have fun!
