In an effort to help fight hunger, Dunkin Donuts announced that on Wednesday, May 25, it would donate $1 for every iced coffee sold. May 25 is also recognized as National Iced Coffee Day.

The donations were given to local non-profits dedicated to stopping hunger within the community. In Rochester, Foodlink was the sponsored non-profit.

“It’s really summer that there is a spike because when children are out of school they’re not receiving that breakfast and lunch that they most often do during the school year,” said Terra Keller, Foodlink’s Chief of Staff. “Families are responsible to provide those meals, and for some families that really stretches their food budget and they have to [seek] assistance at their local food pantry.”

Because 93% of online interactions start with a search engine, Dunkin Donuts helps spread the word about causes like Foodlink and other charitable organizations, so customers can find out more after they’ve bought their morning or afternoon java.

Foodlink provides meals to the homeless and families throughout Rochester with the mission to end hunger and leverage the power of food to build a healthier community. It serves Allegany, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming, and Yates counties.

This is not the first time the two businesses have joined forces. Last year, Dunkin Donuts was able to raise $10,000 for Foodlink during the same event.

“Whenever the weather is warm and it hits the eighties, we get a lot of people coming out looking for that cold beverage pick me up, and more in past years, like last year, unfortunately it was a rainy cooler day, so we really didn’t have that much success so we really are excited about this year,” said Dunkin’ Brands Field Marketing Manager Eric Stensland.
