genesee valley park in fallGenesee River Wilds has added a new informational kiosk in Wellsville at the RiverWalk Plaza, venturing into the southern region of Wellsville for the very first time. The kiosk is the first step for Genesee River Wilds as it plans a new river access point for the Genesee River.

According to the Wellsville Daily, the kiosk is located in the RiverWalk Plaza parking lot in front of Kmart and Tops. The nonprofit organization has established several access parks throughout the northern part of Allegheny County, but it expects that this new access park will be even more successful than the others due to a high amount of daily traffic running down Bolivar Road.

This new location will mark Genesee River Wilds’s sixth “River Access Site” — hopefully, the group has said, at least a dozen access points along the river will be constructed. All of these points provide clear public access to the Genesee River, designated parking for visitors, information on activities like fishing and kayaking, and educational information on the ecology of the river itself.

The Genesee River Wilds is an official 501-C-3 nonprofit organization, according to its website. The group was created in 2008 by community members in order to restore the Genesee River from past flood damage. Just like the estimated 1.53 million nonprofit groups across the U.S. today, Genesee River Wilds’ tax-exempt status allows the group to contribute most of its earnings to reconstruction projects.

The latest kiosk in Wellsville was funded by a grant from the Allegheny County Comprehensive Plan Implementation Group, and River Wilds president Bill Hart has stated that this installation could be the beginning of a bright future for the organization.

“Although many people are aware of and have enjoyed our other sites, the new RiverWalk location will do a lot to raise the awareness of our group locally,” Hart said.
