Rochester’s brilliant and original Project Scion opened the doors on its new studio/art gallery in Anderson’s Alley during the city’s First Friday happening on April 5th. As part of the event, the group revealed its design plan for the next great neighborhood park construction project located on an abandoned lot, donated to the project by the City of Rochester, on Dewey Ave near Ravine Blvd.

After last summer’s phenomenal success with The Orchard, on Jay and Child streets in the JOSANA neighborhood, the new garden will be a focal point of beauty, nature and ownership in a densely built 13 Ward city neighborhood.

Project Scion organizers, Sharon Coates, Bruce Zaretsky and Pietro Furgiuele, were on hand to greet the hundreds of friends and visitors to the gallery. Art was on sale and donations were accepted. Pietro, an inspired artist who repurposes wood, displayed many pieces of reclaimed barrel staves beautifully transformed into candle holders, small dishes and simple art objects. Sharon and Bruce also donated their creations, lovely polished marble candle holders elevated from found rock into handsome, decorative art.

The open house also offered delicious homemade noshes, wine, prizes and music by Kinloch Nelson.
