Roc City Park has been fighting the good fight to bring a public urban skatepark to our city for years and years. The park’s fearless leader, Jim Maddison, broke it down in years, months and minutes this morning when we chatted with him before this start of today’s #CriticalSlash ride down Park Ave. Originally planned for the site under I-490’s Frederick Douglass-Susan B. Anthony Memorial Bridge, the park is now planned for Genesee Crossroads Park. And it seemed to be finally making some great strides with talk of completion by 2015. But recently, there hasn’t been much communication from the city and the park doesn’t want to take steps backward on this long road they have traveled thus far.

Roc City Park supporters were out in full force today, donning red t-shirts, to rally support to continue the push to complete this fantastic public urban skatepark. They skated, biked and walked en masse on Park Ave from Culver to Alexander.

The park is asking for supporters to sign up to speak at one of the upcoming city council meetings:

  • Tuesday, July 16
  • Tuesday, August 13
  • Tuesday, September 17

In order to speak at a meeting, you need to call (585) 428-7421 before 5PM the day of the meeting. You will need to provide your name, address and organization you are representing (if any), so no “Oliver Klozoff”s or “I.P. Freeley”s, please.

If you can’t be at a meeting or don’t like to speak in public, there are loads of other ways to support Roc City Park. Go to roccitypark.org to learn more, donate or volunteer.
