photo18_zpsaf6d7a54Oh, happy day! It’s Election Day and I went early this morning to my neighborhood polling station to participate.

My favorite part of Election Day? The sticker.

I know. I should say it’s the empowering feeling I get filling in the little dots (“Freedom Bubbles,” as my cousin calls them) on the ballot to voice my opinion about who gets to stand up for the values that are important to me. But… it’s really the sticker.

I always make sure to get one and I wear it all day. I’ve even been known to move it from my shirt to my jacket to my workout clothes and back. One time I tried to put it on my PJs at the end of the day, but had already moved it too many times that it lost its stickiness.

Why do I love the sticker so?
Because as you go about your day, you see people all over town (and social media) with their stickers. And it reminds me that, in spite of the huge political divide we have in this country, we are really all in this together. We are a community. We are a city. We are a state. We are Americans. We are citizens of the world. We are people.

I was happy enough with just my sticker today. But then — at the end of my street, I saw something spectacular shining in the beautiful fall early morning sun. A freshly painted crosswalk (pictured above). Icing on the cake. If you want to see what it used to look like, take a gander over here. My kids were so excited when they spotted it that they ran down to visit. I may have shed a few tears of joy.

Hot damn. Election Day AND a freshly painted crosswalk.
