roctransitday
We’re big fans of mass transportation and other alternatives that give freedom to those who don’t have cars and make those with cars less dependent upon them. And we’re not alone. Earlier this week, the American Public Transportation Association reported that ridership on mass transportation across the nation the first quarter of this year was the highest it has been since 1999.

The Rochester area has a very good bus system. (Trust me, I’ve been on some doozies around the world.) And Adam still holds the #1 Bus near and dear to his heart because he used to ride it to the lake with his grandma when he was growing up. So we’re digging the news that Reconnect Rochester is kicking off ROC Transit Day on June 21!

The goal of ROC Transit Day is to get as many people as possible to leave their cars at home and take the bus instead. Why should you do it? I’m glad you asked. It’s better for the environment AND you get to the leave the driving to someone else. That last part means you can do all the things you can’t do while driving a car (keep it clean, people). You can text, sleep, daydream, read, stare out the window, put on your mascara and work on your laptop.

But wait, there’s more (as if you needed more):

There will be fun, prizes and beer! Reconnect Rochester will be giving away 1,000 specially designed all-day bus passes good for FREE rides all day on June 21. Prizes will include gift certificates to local businesses and tickets to area events and other fun stuff. There will also be “pub crawls” to various shops, restaurants, and bars along a few main bus routes. And — guess what — you don’t have to drive home!

Check it out. Participate! ROC Transit Day. Get on the bus, Gus.
